| Albert de Marco was born
in Floriana on the 8th September 1961 to
Harry and Antonia de Marco. Being the
only boy amongst 4 sisters Albert was
destined to follow his fathers
footsteps. He qualified as a mechanical
technician in 1979 and also followed his
father in his hobbies in drawing and
photography. Albert took particular
interest in the latter and a chain of
successful stories in photography kicked
off.
He joined the Royal
Photographic Society in 1994 and achieved
the licentiate in 1995 he was accepted as
an Associate of the same society. A year
later he made his first one-man
exhibition entitled Exposed
which was sold out in a couple of hours.
In 1997 he joined the Master
Photographers Association and a year
later contested the Master Photographer
of the Year. In one night, on October
12th 1998, he won 11 awards of
excellence, 3 Oscars and he was the first
Maltese photographer to win the
International Master Photographer of the
Year. Till this day he is still the only
Maltese photographer to achieve such a
title.
At the end of 1998 he
presented his second one-man exhibition
entitled Missing Pieces. In
1999, Albert worked to shift to digital
photography, and in the year 2000 he was
one of 60 artists chosen to exhibit on
the opening night of St James Cavalier, a
center of creativity in Valletta. In 2003
he represented Malta in a collective
exhibition by the Federation of European
Photographers (FEP) and the following
year he was awarded the lifetime
achievement award for his contribution to
Maltese photography.
Albert joined the SWPP
(Society of Wedding and Portrait
Photography) in 2005 and he was given the
title of their Ambassador to Malta in
2006. Right after he started a pilot
project with 5 photography students and
later set up the ADM Photography School
In 2010 he came out with
his 3rd personal exhibition which he
called City Flowers, and by
2012 he set up the ADM Academy of
Photographic Art with the first 6
students qualifying in summer 2013.
On the same year Albert
came out with something new: a 1,000
image exhibition which was exhibited on a
number of large monitors in Bay street
shopping complex. Entitled simply
1000 this exhibition is the
worlds largest one-man art
exhibition although the Guinness book of
records refused to confirm or deny this
since it was logistically impossible for
the organization to verify the
authenticity of every image.
In between, he delivered
numerous lectures, courses and was a
guest speaker in various seminars and
conventions both locally and
internationally, inspired and motivated
hundreds of photographers and artists
worldwide.
Although Alberts
forte remains photography, in 2014,
he embarked on writing four books.
Wisdom my Way, a book which
compares laws with logic. Scribe
Cum Lux, explores his experimental
photography, I lived twice an
autobiography and Living beyond
life which explores the human
motivation to achieve whatever defines
success.
Albert de Marco works as
an Executive Officer at the Customer Care
office for Enemalta plc, a job he claims
is the best job anyone can have.
